Psychological Tricks of Influence
5 Psychological Tricks
1- The word BUT. Use the good stuff AFTER the BUT.
NOT - I would love to have gone, but I don't have time. Use I don't have time, BUT I would love to next time. Put the good stuff second.
2- A Double Bind. Do you want leather or fabric interior? [assumes the sale.]
I know you're probably sceptical about this, and if you weren't I'd think something is wrong with you... [leads people to have an open mind] [if the person agrees, you're leading the conversation, explain why you came around to having an open mind. if the person disagrees, they will try to convince themselves into having an open mind.
3- Visualization. Images created in other ppls heads by our own words are just as powerful.
"Lets say this interview went really well, and a year from now, we're looking back, what would I have had to have done in that year for you to feel like I was a great employee and that this was a good pick?" [forces them to visualize picking you and you doing a great job.]
"Have you ever made an exception?"
"For our second date I'll take you on a mediteranean cruise to see... and we'll fly back by Monday..."
-FRAMING
use YOU, not I. Not, "It would mean the world to me if you would read this thing I wrote..." Instead, "I wrote this article for your audience specifically, if you could share it I think it would help you out a lot.
- Scarcity
Make yourself scarce. Keep yourself busy, so you have to turn ppl down sometimes, and makes you more valuable to them in the future. [have multiple offers etc.]
